New Stage 2 Water Restrictions

I got the following from the city of Plano today (8/23/2011):

Over the past several weeks, the city has received a lot of resident feedback on the water map for watering restrictions in Stage 2. The water map was made in the best interest of the water system; however, considering the needs of the residents and taking a different look at our water system, we have made a change to the watering schedule. We realize the water map was in place for a very short period of time, but providing a timely response was necessary in this case. Last night the Plano City Council adopted a different approach to watering restrictions, while continuing to limit watering to 2 days per week.

Effective immediately, the City will move to Even/Odd Watering:

· Even addresses may water on Monday’s and Thursday’s except for 10am to 6pm.
· Odd addresses may water on Tuesday’s and Friday’s except for 10am to 6pm.

All variances that were granted previously will still be in effect. Watering by hand, using soaker hoses, or using any form of drip irrigation is still acceptable any day of the week, any time of the day.

We are working quickly to get new information out to all residents through some form of print communication, e-mail, press release, the water information line, and the webpage: www.plano.gov/water . The website should be updated by the end of business today and is the best source of accurate and current information for staff and residents. The water information line (972-769-4338) has been updated this morning.

This change will provide our residents with the flexibility to protect their outdoor assets. We continue to encourage everyone to focus on reducing their water use to help the city meet its reduction goals. I wanted to send this out to all of you so that you can share this information with your residents; I expect it will bring some stress relief to everyone!

· The city will offer periodic “Keep Your Landscape Alive During Drought” classes during the months of September and October at the Environmental Education Center, 4116 W Plano Parkway. You can find more information here: http://www.plano.gov/water

· The City of Plano offers credit on your water bill if you replace a water guzzling toilet with a high efficiency toilet, install a rain/freeze sensor on an existing irrigation system that doesn’t have one, or install a rain barrel. You can find more details here: http://plano.gov/Departments/Environmental%20Services/greenliving/waterconservation/Pages/WaterRebate.aspx

· The City of Plano gives away free to residents: low flow showerheads, shower timers, kitchen and bathroom faucet aerators, toilet leak detection tablets, toilet flappers, and rain gauges.
